Smikkelbaard asked Darren Damselfly about his latest record, the atmospheric, intriguing, An Awkward Bow.

I didn't want to make 'Vottol II' but wanted to keep some elements of feel and sound from it, and also construct it in a similar way in that it's a bit of a journey when listened to from start to end. The feel I wanted was, if 'Vottol' was the 'loss' album, that this would be the 'love' or 'life' album. In that respect I think it's a bit more direct musically, slightly barer instrumentally, with a bit more of a live feel. I've used more conventional drums and dusted off my guitars on some tracks, including indulging my love of choppy tremelo and feedback (nods to inspirations such as Thin White Rope and My Bloody Valentine). I've also used more (rudimentary) piano to try and get a bit of John Foxx 'The Garden' feel on some tracks, and gone a bit neo-classical on some of the string arrangements.
