about

[…] that so by the delight of the ears, the weaker minds may rise to the feeling of devotion.

We’ve witnessed Montréal’s duo perform during our beloved AA night in Leiden, combining their krauty crafts with the gritty textures found in today’s EDM. The following mixtape includes francophone popsongs, dubby depths and found-sound-textures. Blanka seamlessly blends bass-driven post-punk vibes with the sweetest songs: a true homage to today’s eclecticism.

Our idea of a confession concerns hidden statements and information that finally - at a given moment - came to light: for the reader or listener to perceive and/or judge. Reading Soares, Augustinus and Willemsen was bliss: confessions about many a thing, mostly aesthetically or ethically driven. But just tell us, Blanka: what’s there to confess with music?

That little something the audience was not aware of and - hopefully - does not expect. Remember how everyone’s favorite Dutch talk-show, DWDD, cultivated the irony of the actually-never-been-wrong ‘Foute’ popsongs? KABLAM! No such thing as a dichotomy in sound! We’ll deal with true, false, right and/or wrong once the music’s over. Blanka explores its inner musical omnivore, showing their personal underpainting of song and sound. From the grimiest Usher you’ll ever hear to Carter Tutti Void to Kelela.

True:
The first thing that came to mind was you
Second thing was how do I know if it's mine and is it true
Third thing was me wishing that I never did what I did
