about

More subterranean sounds courtesy of mystery man Chlorine. This time he's created an escape route to ur-sanity through a Sunderland wormhole. Maybe he's coming on like The Caretaker. But with Chlorine there's a realisation that the here and now offer just as much cause for regret and retrospection. On Guitar 1, Chlorine's pedals have been ritually lined up on the East Boldon ley line and synchronised to buzz and hum when they hear the ghost of Raich Carter. The delicate frequencies given out sound like they've been mothballed; pretty much like everything else in this "Northern powderhaus". You can think of Anjou's Mark Nelson or Dirk Serries, Rutger Zuydervelt, and the rest of that Dutch/Belgian sound-Bauhaus, too. But on Guitar 1, there's more melancholy. Heaps of it, like scree slowly sliding into the Wear. The listener is aware of a slowly ticking depth charge, a huge sensory deprivation tank chucked down a mine shaft; one made of the finest melted burger cheese. Of course. And with no sauce. You may as well send pictures of your great grandparents to the Sunderland Echochamber.
