about

It's carnival season in Holland: a period marking the beginning of Lent, and in small pockets of the North & most of the South every fucker gets drunk. This is a strange time. I myself have seen them burn the rabbit effigy in Noordwijkerhout, drown the goat statue in Voorhout and parade the 30 foot papier-mâché prostitute sculpture through Sassenheim. I have seen these strange Masonic/Catholic rituals and I fear for mankind. I have also crawled on my knees through the villages of the Bollenstreek, in search of shoarma, with the premonition (due to trying to join the locals' strange drinking games) of a pair of antlers ready to grow through my temple the next morning; surrounded only by lakes of piss and mountains of food wrappers, whilst drunk farmers and fierce women couple energetically in the car park behind Blokker. 40 Dollar Baby's strange amalgam of samples, prog nonsense, obscure Beatles covers and psychedelic comedy raps sums this weird week up. May your choice of religious deity help you.
