about

Outsider pop? You betcha. A way with a melody line - even a creaking one -can tell a thousand stories. Bittersweet conversations with the mirror, staring at the neighbours. Getting slightly paranoid whilst doing the shopping in Jumbo. How much pancake mix can a sane person buy? The opener Voices rubs in that feeling to the nth degree, over 6 minutes. It's not letting anyone forget what the POINT is. Elsewhere we get weirdly blubbery Glam-Cluster keyboardathons like What Happened and Give Her The Knife. We also get daft lounge pop and mawkish sentiment in My Baby and I Think It's Gonna Work; tracks that sounds like they should be played out at a corporate function. Harry Merry meets Giel Beelen at a harvest festival in a shed full of apples in Brabant. Some other bits sound like a drugged Steve Mason (Make a Wish, Pedestrians). The weird (good?) thing is no one would get the seedy Viv Stanshall nonsense that courses through these tracks.
