Gobstoppers

Nic Brown "Gobstoppers" is without doubt one of the strangest albums I've ever heard; a mixture of strummed and feedback spewing guitars, a bizarre, monotone version of electro created from what sounds like a drawer full of cutlery and beats that could be the result of Chlorine mucking about with a laptop or running a stick against the railings of the local cemetery.. At 26 tracks it's a bit of a slog (a 5-tune EP of the most colourful excerpts would have been a blinder) but I listened to it from start to finish in a single sitting and I'll do it again, time and those nice body builders I payed £50 a piece to stand outside my bedroom door permitting. Weird doesn't even come close to describing "Gobdstoppers". Favorite track: Coxzen.

about

Bravura electro? Does it exist? This digital Behemoth, cominatcha from Mackemland and the Former Bollenstreek just doesn't know when to stop or shut its cakehole. A diffuse collection of reflective soundscapes, kitchen-range bangers, daydreams-made-code, extenuated sonic wankathons and odd sonic fag ends has an air of Hohe Priester Klaus Quadro Schulze about it. Is Chlorine getting fucked up and lippy and wearing a cape? We think so. Not everything is short. Some monstrous beasts stalk the plain; after 23 tracks of ambient freak out, any tea drinking wallflowers left standing will be pasted and basted by the 23 minute postpostpost industrial stomp of Braiiqswavve. The sound of packages being made on a production line near you!
