about

The sweetest thing must be harmony, and it's surely here with Electropoëzie’s debut ‘Voor de Moord’. Sugar-coated synthpads and the brightest of rhythms are accompanied by the feverish, dreamlike rhymes of Hans Hoeverloo. This is the sound of 1980s space-dreams that ended up scattered on your millennial marble floor; the sound of a future that never arrived. We’re not sure whether we should be disappointed, but we'll but cling on to whatever’s there to hold onto. Slowly the dream collapses and all that’s left is the need to give shape to the credo, ‘I have nothing to say, and I’m saying it’.

‘Voor de Moord’ feels like a 21st century Krankenhaus on too much Haribo. It easily reminds its listeners of the likes of legendary Randstad-based cult band Leuk & Co, or Salo Mentale’s free-form poetry explorations with The Hague's Bunker posse. It’s the elevation of the trivial to the realm of beauty: grocery lists and purple elephants walk hand-in-hand with grand concepts like "expressive emptiness" and "existential ignorance". It’s the sound of working 9-5 to pay for your yoga classes; or paying 500 bucks for that exquisite New Age record; of buying a fat Buddha, whilst not knowing it’s not a Buddha. This is that sound.
